{"id":31021,"date":"2026-03-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-16T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.resourcepro.com\/?post_type=bulletin&#038;p=31021"},"modified":"2026-04-01T06:50:00","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T10:50:00","slug":"new-maryland-bulletin-26-7-clarifies-split-settlement-practices-for-title-producers","status":"publish","type":"bulletin","link":"https:\/\/www.resourcepro.com\/bulletin\/new-maryland-bulletin-26-7-clarifies-split-settlement-practices-for-title-producers\/","title":{"rendered":"New Maryland Bulletin 26-7 Clarifies Split Settlement Practices for Title Producers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>MD<\/strong>| <a href=\"https:\/\/insurance.maryland.gov\/Pages\/Bulletins\/Bulletin-26-7.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bulletin 26-7<\/a> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">advises <strong>Maryland<\/strong> title insurers and title insurance producers that the Insurance Article does not prohibit \u0093split settlements,\u0094 where buyers and sellers use separate settlement service providers and divide escrow, closing, and settlement responsibilities between them.<\/span> However, while buyers have a statutory right under Business Occupations &amp; Professions \u00a7 17-524 to select their own title, settlement, escrow, lender, or title attorney, Maryland law does not contemplate both buyer and seller each having their own title insurance producer or the buyer\u0092s selected providers delegating their responsibilities to providers chosen by the seller.
